The Institute for Environment and Development Studies (IEDS) is an independent, non-partisan institute and think-tank, responsible for research, teaching and global communication on environmental and development issues. IEDS was initiated by a group of individuals trained in science and social science backgrounds in 2006. This group felt the need for a professional body to provide research, consultancy and training to individuals that will enhance social and economic development at the grass-roots level. It was established to carter shortage of human resources in the field of agriculture, land management, environment and development.
IEDS has a unique combination of research, teaching and global communication.
In all its work, IEDS aims to challenge conventional and generate fresh ideas that foster new approaches to development policy and practice. Such problem-focused thinking requires a commitment to a multi-disciplinary approach, not just within social sciences, environmental and agricultural sciences; but across research, teaching and communications.
